Sporting Seeks Over €70m for Star Striker Gyökeres Amid Transfer Rumors
June 11, 2025
Rumors of a potential transfer for Viktor Gyökeres are heating up, as Sporting insists on a price tag of over €70m. The club denies any pre-existing agreement for a lesser amount, despite the player's claims.
Sporting is reportedly asking for more than €70m for their star striker Viktor Gyökeres. This comes amidst growing speculation about the player's future, with Manchester United and Arsenal showing interest. Gyökeres, however, has expressed discontent with Sporting's handling of the situation, claiming that the club had previously agreed to let him go for €60m plus add-ons, a figure significantly less than his €100m release clause. Sporting's president Frederico Varandas has categorically denied these allegations, stating that no such promise was made. He further clarified that Sporting has yet to receive an offer for Gyökeres and emphasised that the club will not be bullied into making decisions. Despite these assertions, Varandas did admit to an agreement with Gyökeres that he would be allowed to leave for less than his €100m release clause. However, he refused to commit to a specific amount, citing unpredictable factors like injuries or a disappointing season. Gyökeres has been a sensation at Sporting, netting 97 goals in 102 matches since his transfer from Coventry City in July 2023, making him one of Europe's most sought-after strikers.
