Real Madrid to Unveil Trent Alexander-Arnold as New Addition

June 12, 2025

English defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to officially become a Real Madrid player this Thursday, following his early release from Liverpool and signing a six-year contract with the Spanish club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to step into a new chapter of his career as he officially becomes a Real Madrid player this Thursday. Alexander-Arnold, after reaching an agreement with Liverpool for an early release, will ink a six-year contract that will keep him in Madrid until June 30, 2031. The announcement of the 26-year-old's move to Real Madrid was made last month. The England international will sign the contract at Madrid's Valdebebas training ground, followed by an official presentation by club president Florentino Perez. This will be accompanied by a news conference where the new recruit will face the media. Having spent two decades with Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold made a name for himself as one of the most prominent full-backs in world football. His tenure at Anfield was marked by a haul of nine trophies, including the 2019 Champions League and the Premier League titles in 2020 and 2025. Madrid had long set its sights on Alexander-Arnold, who decided against renewing his Liverpool contract. His move to Madrid followed unsuccessful attempts by the LaLiga club to secure him in January as a replacement for injured captain Dani Carvajal. The English defender's decision not to sign a new deal with the reigning Premier League champions paved the way for negotiations for an early release, allowing him to participate in the Club World Cup. Real Madrid's acquisition of Alexander-Arnold was reportedly secured for a fee of €10 million ($11.5m), although the exact figure has not been disclosed by either club. The club hopes that his participation in the Club World Cup in the United States will not only facilitate his integration into the team but also enhance their chances in the tournament. As part of the club's defensive overhaul, Real Madrid has also signed centre-back Dean Huijsen. Besides, moves are being made to bring in Benfica defender Álvaro Carreras and River Plate's Franco Mastantuono, who are currently with their respective clubs in the United States.
