Manchester City's coach Pep Guardiola has admitted that participation in the FIFA Club World Cup could have a detrimental effect on the upcoming season. Nevertheless, he suggested that other clubs might be envious of City's position.
Pep Guardiola, the coach of Manchester City, has acknowledged that the club's involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup could potentially derail their upcoming season. Despite the potential risk, Guardiola hinted at a sense of envy from clubs not included in the tournament. Manchester City is set to compete against Saudi team Al Hilal, with the winner securing a spot in the quarterfinals.
Manchester City has been in the United States for over two weeks and could extend their stay by another fortnight if they advance to the final in New York scheduled for July 13. Guardiola confessed his uncertainty regarding the team's performance in the next season, which kicks off on August 15.
Guardiola responded to criticism of the tournament by Jurgen Klopp, who previously described it as 'a pointless competition'. Guardiola conceded that he agreed with some of Klopp's points, but implied that other clubs might covet City's position.
Despite the challenges, Guardiola maintained a positive outlook, stating, 'it is what it is'. He emphasized that Manchester City has earned their place in the tournament through their past achievements and expressed a determination to give their best performance.
